Women’s Care and Birth Center at McPherson Center for Health Introduces Cuddle Cot to Support Families Experiencing Pregnancy and Infant Loss

McPherson, KS- McPherson Center for Health is proud to announce the addition of a Cuddle Cot to our Women’s Care and Birth Center, offering compassionate support to families experiencing the heartbreaking loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal death.

The Cuddle Cot is a specialized cooling bassinet that allows families more time with their baby following a loss. This additional time provides parents and loved ones with the opportunity to hold, bond, grieve, create memories, and say goodbye in a meaningful and unhurried way.

Pregnancy and infant loss affect thousands of families each year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 1 in 175 births in the United States results in stillbirth. Despite how common this experience is, it remains deeply personal and devastating for each family.

The Cuddle Cot was a donation that Aubrey Labs, McPherson Hospital, Women’s Care and Birth Center (WCBC) RN initiated when she reached out to Ashlie’s Embrace, a nonprofit organization based in North Canton, Ohio. Within 48 hours, the organization notified Jacquie Disque, Director of the WCBC at McPherson Hospital that one had been donated to the unit.

“Providing compassionate care during loss is an essential part of our mission,” said Disque. “The Cuddle Cot allows families the priceless gift of time, time to process, to hold their baby, to take photographs, and to begin their healing journey surrounded by love and support.”

The Cuddle Cot will be available to families delivering at McPherson Center for Health at no additional cost. Staff members have received training to ensure sensitive, respectful care during these profoundly difficult moments.

This addition reflects McPherson Center for Health’s continued commitment to family-centered care, dignity, and emotional support throughout every stage of life, including loss.
