For Brett, staying proactive about his health was nothing new. After years of routine colonoscopies and preventative care, a recent screening with Dr. Stringer revealed a serious constriction in his colon that would require surgery.
Although the procedure was carefully planned, the unexpected happened once surgery began. Dr. Stringer discovered that scar tissue had caused part of the colon to fuse to the bladder, requiring a more complex operation than originally anticipated. With the support of Dr. Fetsch and the surgical team, the procedure was successfully completed.
Brett credits both preparation and trust in his care team for helping him through the experience. Following detailed guidance from his physicians and dietitian, he carefully completed every step of his pre-surgery plan.
What stood out most, however, was the level of compassion he experienced throughout his stay.
“They truly cared. It wasn’t that they were just doing their job — they were truly taking care of me.”
From nurses and physicians to leadership and support staff, Brett says every interaction reflected genuine care and teamwork.
Today, Brett continues giving back through participation in the Patient and Family Advisory Council, helping improve the patient experience for others in the community.
