Medical Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition counseling is available by our Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) for a wide variety of conditions, including, but not limited to:

  • Diabetes
  • Weight loss
  • Weight gain
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Cancer
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • GI issues

Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is an evidence-based approach to treating chronic conditions such as diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and chronic kidney disease through the use of an individually-tailored nutrition plan.  Not only does MNT improve outcomes, it can also significantly reduce the costs of medications and hospitalizations.  An RDN can help you make sense of nutrition claims that sound too good to be true and help guide you towards using food and nutrition to improve your health and wellness.  A primary goal is to improve your relationship with food, where food can be viewed as a source of pleasure and joy, no matter what dietary restrictions you may be faced with.

Diabetes Prevention Program

DID YOU KNOW?  Type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed by up to 58% with healthy lifestyle modifications!  Our nationally-recognized Diabetes Prevention Program has demonstrated good outcomes since we first began offering classes in 2016.  Class size is small enough that participants experience a feeling of belonging and learn from each other, which is one of the goals of the program.  Another goal of the program is 5-10% weight loss throughout the duration of the class, which meets over the course of a year.  We discuss healthy eating, physical activity, stress management, and behavior modifications in a fun and friendly environment with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and Registered Nurse who genuinely care about you.

The cost of the program is covered by Medicare and may be covered by some private insurances.  Classes are typically scheduled twice a year and we are currently recruiting for our next class planned for this fall, 2020.  For questions or to sign up for the next class (exact dates TBD), please call our Registered Dietitian Nutritionist at 620-241-2251, ext 179.
